Anfang Oktober 1999 rollte im japanischen Toyota-Werk Motomachi rund 350 Kilometer südwestlich von Tokio das 100-millionste Fahrzeug vom Band, ein zweifarbiger Crown Saloon G. Die japanische S-Klasse wird in Europa nicht angeboten. In den Folgejahren ging es deutlich schneller voran, fast auf den Tag genau wurde jetzt in diesem September der 300-millionste Toyota produziert.

14 Jahre später und exakt 88 Jahre und
zwei Monate nach dem Start des ersten Modells, der im
August 1935 vom Band lief. Allerdings kein Pkw, es war der G1, ein Nutzfahrzeug.
Gut sechs Meter lang, hatte hinter dem dreisitzigen Fahrerabteil eine offene Ladefläche.
Sein 3,4 Liter großer Sechszylinder leistetet 65 PS.
Parallel wurde allerdings auch bereits im gleichen Jahr der Prototyp eines Personenwagens gezeigt, der trug die Bezeichnung Model A1.
Er entstand nachdem Kiichiro Toyoda im Jahr 1929 durch Europa und die USA
reiste, um sich die dortige Automobilproduktion genauer anzuschauen.
Nach seiner Rückkehr begann er mit der Umsetzung der Idee eines Pkw aus Japan.
Doch
natürlich war zu jener Zeit im Vorfeld des 2. Weltkriegs ein Lkw die
bessere Wahl beim Start einer neuen Fahrzeugproduktion. So rollte zuerst der G1 von den Bändern.Gut
ein Sechstel der insgesamt 300 Millionen Fahrzeuge waren Corolla.
Genauer gesagt knapp 53,4 Millionen
Exemplare.
Damit ist diese Baureihe zugleich das meistproduzierte Toyota-Modell.

Wir zeigen hier Fotos der ersten Toyota-Modelle, vom Truck G1 und Personenwagen A1.
Diese Fotos machte Auto-Fan Akobir, Verkaufsmanager bei Akebono Co.,Ltd in Yokohama.
Sie entstanden im Toyota Museum in Nagoya, Japan.
Dort wird auch gezeigt, wie der Prototyp des Model A1 in Handarbeit entstand.

Including production numbers for September 2023, Toyota Motor Corporation has reached a global production total of 300 million cars.
This number was achieved 88 years and two months after Toyota's very
first cars, the Model G1 truck, was produced by the Automotive
Production Division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd. (later Toyota
Industries Corporation) in August 1935.
- 180.52 million cars produced
domestically
- 119.6 million produced abroad
The model with the highest total production is the Corolla. 53.399 million.
Comments by Chairman and Master Driver Akio Toyoda:
"Kiichiro Toyoda said, 'Carmaking is something everyone does
together.' I think this number of 300 million stands as proof of all the
hard work, every day, of our colleagues at Toyota, our suppliers and
dealers, and all the many other stakeholders, as well as all those who
came before us. This history did not just start when they built the
first car. The founding members repeatedly tried and failed, continually
building prototypes, and their efforts led to the Toyota of today.
Toyota has faced danger time and again to this point. Each time, what
has saved us are the customers who love Toyota cars. I think the number
of cars tells the stories of our customers, and the customers who have
chosen Toyota cars to be their partners through their own stories are
what allow us to continue making cars to this day. I am grateful from
the bottom of my heart. I love cars, too, and we will carry on making
cars, one by one and with care, along with all our car-loving
colleagues."
