Ein weiteres Highlight bei RM Sotheby’s: Steve McQueen’s Alltagsauto wird dort versteigert am 8. und 9. Oktober
Den oftmals auch „King of Cool“ genannten Hollywood-Star kennen die
meisten in einem Porsche 917 im Gulf-Design auf der Rennstrecke in Le
Mans, auf Motorrädern wie Triumph, Indian und Husqvarna. Sein
Lieblingsgefährt ist allerdings den wenigstens bekannt, ein Modell der
US-Marke Hudson Motor Car Company (1909 bis 1954) aus Detroit.

Deren
über 5,1 Meter langes Modell Wasp gab es mit zwei und vier Türen als
Limousine, als Cabriolet und Coupé, genannt „Hollywood“. Alle hatten
einen Reihensechszylindermotor an Bord.
McQueen
entschied sich für die viertürige Limousine, denn sie war natürlich
viel praktischer für den Alltag. Und da setzte er den Wagen Baujahr 1952
auch intensiv ein.

„Mit dem Auto fahr' ich sonntags zur Kirche“, sagte Steve McQueen,
fuhr mit ihm auch regelmäßig durch seinen Wohnort Santa Paula und dort
zum Flugplatz. In einem der Hangars hatte er alles verstaut, was er so
sammelte. Während des Umbaus seines Hauses wohnte er dort auch eine
zeitlang.
Kein Wunder, dass der Wagen 63.537 Meilen auf dem Tacho stehen hat.
Nach seinem Tod wechselte er öfters den Besitzer, landete dann im grandiosen Petersen
Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
Jetzt sucht er einen neuen Besitzer.
Der
kann ihn auf der 19. Hershey Auktion vom 8. bis 9. Oktober
kennennlernen und später mitnehmen. Erwartet wird ein Preis zwischen

McQueen’s car to be auctioned this fall by RM Sotheby’s. The legendary
actor’s 1952 Hudson Wasp will be offered at the 19th annual Hershey
auction, October 8–9, 2025. The car is estimated at $40,000 - $60,000
USD.
The 'Twin H-Power' Two-Door Brougham, was famously described by the
actor as his “Sunday-go-to-church-car.”
The legendary “King of
Cool” drove the Hudson regularly around Santa Paula, often using it
for school runs and weekend errands.
Period photos show McQueen standing
alongside the Wasp at his Santa Paula Airport hangar, where he stored
parts of his collection and even lived for a time while his home was
under renovation.
Showing just 63,537 miles, the 1952 Hudson Wasp is powered by its inline six-cylinder engine fitted with the rare Power Dome cylinder head, the desirable Twin-H Power carburetor setup, and an optional Hydra-Matic Drive transmission.
These performance options,
combined with Hudson’s step-down chassis and short-wheelbase design,
made the Wasp an agile and stylish car during the marque’s
NASCAR-dominating era.
Between 1951 and 1954, Hudsons secured three
consecutive NASCAR Grand National Series championships and 78 race
victories, cementing the brand’s reputation for performance.
Following McQueen’s passing, the Wasp was sold as part of
his estate auction in 1984.
It was later acquired by the Petersen
Automotive Museum in 2006, where it has remained for nearly two decades.

countless McQueen fans and appeared at notable events including
